Early Years – Professional Development and Training

Our team of Dietitians provide professional development and training for educators working in early childhood settings (Long Day Care, Family Day Care, Kindergartens) that either provide food for children or where parents provide food. Most of the following workshops can be delivered in person or virtually. All participants can receive a certificate of completion after attending a workshop.

Safe Food Handling in Early Years Settings (1.5hrs)

Ensure your staff are working with the most current food safety skills and requirements. This workshop includes practical activities to upskill staff in applying safe food handling practices. Topics covered include food safety hazards, controlling bacteria, personal hygiene, and safe handling of infant formula and expressed breastmilk. This food safety training workshop meets the requirements of Standard 3.2.2A Food Safety Management Tools and covers all the necessary food safety requirements needed for food handlers under the new standard.

Full Food Safety Supervisor Course for Early Years Settings (full day course)

This face to face food safety supervisor course includes early years industry specific content and is designed with the needs of our students in mind. This nationally recognised training will prepare you to supervise and oversee day to day operations and to prevent and recognise food safety hazards.

Recertification Food Safety Supervisor Course for Early Years Settings (half day course)

This 3 hour recertification course is the equivalent of our full food safety supervisor course and is for those staff who already hold the food safety supervisor qualification (for the vulnerable populations units of competency) and who are wanting to update their skills and knowledge. This face to face recertification food safety supervisor course includes early years industry specific content and is designed with the needs of our students in mind. This nationally recognised training will prepare you to supervise and oversee day to day operations and to prevent and recognise food safety hazards.

Meeting Nutrition Requirements in Early Years Settings (1.5hrs)

This interactive workshop will increase your staffs understanding of nutrition needs for young children and how to improve the food environment of your setting. This session aligns with nutrition guidelines within the National Quality Standard (NQS) and Early Years Learning Framework. Topics covered include nutrition requirements for children under 5 years, food allergies and intolerances, responsive feeding and mealtimes.

Meeting Nutrition & Food Safety Requirements in Early Years Settings (1.5hrs)

This is an interactive and informative session which aligns with the National Quality Standard and Early Years Learning Framework. Staff learn the essential of safe food handling, and also learn about nutrition requirements for children under 5 years of age.

Menu Planning for Early Years Settings (2-3hrs)

Do you provide food for children in your care? This session will provide you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to create menus with healthy meals and snacks that meet children’s nutritional requirements each day. Participants will learn about food group requirements and key nutrition considerations, process of menu planning, budgeting, and developing standard recipes.

Managing Allergies and Intolerances (1.5hrs)

This workshop provides early years educators and staff with the information and skills to best manage food allergies and intolerances in their setting, and practical strategies to support families and children in their care. Participants will learn about risk minimisation, identifying allergens, integrated menus, and communicating with families.

Positive Mealtimes & Intuitive Eating (1.5hrs)

This practical and interactive workshop explores strategies for Educators to make mealtimes with children in care positive, relaxed and social. Topics covered include the mealtime environment, strategies for encouraging intuitive eating, using positive food language, and requirements of the National Quality Framework.

Baby’s First Foods (1.5hrs)

This workshop provides early years staff and educators with the latest research and guidelines on introducing first foods to babies. Participants will learn about when to start first foods, suitable foods and textures, preparing first foods, commercial baby foods, and communicating with families.
