Food Foundations Training and Services

Food Foundations offers a range of training and services for early childhood educators and parents on healthy eating and food safety.

All services are delivered by qualified Dietitians/Nutritionists and reflect The National Quality Framework – Standard 2.2, The Early Years Learning Framework, and Get Up & Grow.

Educator Presentations

Meeting Nutrition & Food Safety Requirements in Early Childhood Settings

  • 120 minute presentation designed to raise awareness and understanding of nutrition and food safety in early childhood settings. Topics include: Linking Get Up & Grow, the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards; Dietary requirements for children under 5 years; Supplying nutritious food; Promoting healthy eating habits; Implementing effective and current food safety and hygiene practices.

Safe Food Handling

  • 90 minute presentation. Topics include: Basic food hygiene principles; Safe food storage and temperature control; Cooling and reheating food; Avoiding food contamination. Includes a mini Food Safety Appraisal of your facility.

Meeting Nutrition Requirements in Early Childhood Settings

  • 90 minute presentation. Topics include: Linking Get Up & Grow, the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards; Guidelines and research relating to nutrition for young children; Managing allergies and special needs; Considering cultural differences; Managing fussy eating; Nutrition policy, menu checklists and reading food labels; Supporting breastfeeding.

Allergies and Intolerances in Early Childhood Settings

  • 120 minute presentation. Topics include: the differences between allergies and intolerances; Common allergies and intolerances in early childhood settings; Management of children with allergies and intolerances in your setting.

Food and Behaviour

  • 90 minute presentation. Topics include: How eating patterns can affect children’s behaviour, influence the risk of injury and lead to nutrient deficiencies that affect behaviour; Information to help manage and support children with the behavioural aspects of food sensitivities (including ADHD and ASD), food allergy and fussy eating.

Parent Education

Food and Behaviour

  • 90 minute presentation tailored to parents of children 0-8years. Topics include: How eating patterns can affect children’s behaviour, influence the risk of injury and lead to nutrient deficiencies that affect behaviour; Information to help manage and support children with the behavioural aspects of food sensitivities (including ADHD and ASD), food allergy and fussy eating.

Parent Nutrition

  • 60 minute presentation including practical advice for parents of infants, toddlers, and young children. Topics include: Infant nutrition; Developing healthy eating habits; Achieving adequate nutrition with minimal fuss; Fussy eating; Healthy Snacks and Lunchboxes; Food allergy and intolerances; Food variety; How to make food activities safe and fun.

Parent Nutrition with Healthy Snack Demonstration

  • 90 minute presentation including taste testing of various healthy snacks for children. Topics include: Infant nutrition; Developing healthy eating habits; Achieving adequate nutrition with minimal fuss; Fussy eating; Healthy Snacks and Lunchboxes; Food allergy and intolerances; Food variety; How to make food activities safe and fun.
